Styles & Forms of Yoga Moni Covers
Ashtanga Vinyasa
Ashtanga vinyasa yoga is an intensive, quick paced and flowing practice where students are guided through a series of asana’s taught in sequences. Transitions are quicker than those in other Hatha and Yin styled yoga’s. Ashtanga yoga is known for its rigor, mindful movement with breath and developing in students a sense of discipline, strength and determination.
Expect to be challenged in a sensitive way, build heat in the body through the practice of moving asanas and focus the mind through the mantra of the Uijayi breath.
Ashtanga Yoga literally means “the eight limbs of yoga”. The eight limbs were first outline in the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali, a text detailing the purpose of yoga practice and the principles that a yogi should strive to live in accordance with, for living a better life through yoga.
The Eight Limbs: Yama – Ethical disciplines; Nijama- Self-observation; Asana – Posture; Pranayama – Breath control; Pratyahara – Sense withdrawal; Dharana – Concentration; Dharana – Meditation; Samadhi – A state of joy and peace
Through regulation of practice, the eight limbs are nourished. Personal insights begin to manifest. You can become more aware of what you put into your body and how you interact with the world around you.
Ashtanga Primary Series – modified for beginners
This Ashtanga class, will be full of detailed instruction as you move through a dynamic sequence based on the Ashtanga Primary Series. It will slowly build in intensity, catering for those who are new to yoga.
Ashtanga Primary Series – modified for intermediate
For this Ashtanga class, you need to have some experience in yoga, and be able to follow instructions while moving and breathing. Expect a dynamic moving practice.
Alignment Based Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa is a dynamic, flowing style of yoga characterised by stringing postures together so that you move from one to another, seamlessly, using breath. Commonly referred to as “flow” yoga. Alignment based vinyasa classes offer a variety of postures, that are taught with alignment cues. You will not only learn the how but the why! The variable nature of Vinyasa Yoga helps to develop a more balanced body architecturally, while quieting the mind as you consciously use all your attention and awareness on synchronising breath with the sequencing of movement.
yin yoga
Yin yoga is a slow contemplative practice that works deeply into your body with a series of longer-held floor asanas. Poses are typically held for 3 – 5 minutes in association with the breath, pranayama. Yin yoga targets the deepest tissues of the body, your connective tissues – ligaments, joints, bones, and the deep fascial networks of the body. It is practiced almost entirely passive, although some Yin asanas contain Yang elements to help the nervous system release in a safe way. Yin yoga is a wonderful way to promote a meditative practice while slowly moving the body towards stillness. Moni’s classes are accompanied by atmospheric music, soundscapes, tibetan and crystal sound bowls.
