Comfortable movement of your pelvis and hip joints is vital for stability. This interdisciplinary Yoga and Feldenkrais bundle, is designed for those wanting to focus on the mobility of their hips, pelvis and low back. You will learn the benefits of how healthy movements of the hips and pelvis work to help the legs, back, chest and your overall organisation.
While most people don’t have, or need, hypermobile hip joints like advanced yogis or dancers, most only use a fraction of the potential movement available to them and this can lead to chronic back pain, limited abilities in sitting, difficulties standing, and trouble walking.
Developing the ability to pivot the hip joint more freely can help bring more ease and comfort in sitting, standing and walking. Through the traditional practice of yoga asanas, each lesson will guide you slowly towards increasing levels of internal and external hip rotations.

This thorough Body Scan will take you on a deep dive into your sensations. Take the time toarriveinto being, by slowly and incrementally sensing and feeling what is alive for you right now.
Yoga class :Activate the hips
Start your journey towards releasing the hips here. From the beginning of this lesson, Moni will guide you slowly through movements that will help bring awareness to the hips and pelvis. You will explore movements to support external hip rotations in a very gentle way, progressing through a slow vinyasa flow to warm up before sinking deeper into the hips in poses such asBaddha-konasanaandMalasana.
Feldenkrais lesson: Improve hip rotation.
Free your hips and back. In this lesson you will explore movements to help improve the rotation of your hip joints and the way your hips connect with your pelvis, lower back, chest, and ribs, all the way up to your head. The movements also bring about a lengthening of the long back muscles which run parallel to your spine, relieving lower back tension.
Yoga class: Open the hips
Explore the range of movement in the hips as you start to build strength with flexibility. Breathe deeply as you explore external rotations.
Feldenkrais lesson: Reaching
while in sitting to gain hip mobilitySitting with legs crossed easy, and comfortably, requires freedom in the pelvis, back and chest. In this lesson you will focus on the functioning of reaching, to coordinate the flexion and extension movements of the pelvis, spine, and chest. This will help to free up the hips and lower back enabling you to find more external hip rotation need for sitting comfortably on the floor. This is a great preparation for lotus sitting.
Yoga class:Hip mobility and flexibility
In this lesson, you will move to find more space in the pelvis as you open the hips. This class you help relieve any tightness you may have in the hips and build toward greater flexibility.
Feldenkrais lesson: Lotus sitting
In this lesson you will explore the movement of the pelvis around the hip joints. You will challenge the habitual movements of the back extensor and flexor muscles to help you reorganise the pelvis, helping the external rotation of the hips. Opening the hip joints enables the pelvis to be better positioned for sitting and walking. If you are working on the lotus position, this is a great lesson to discover more depth and ease in this posture.
Yoga Class: Flow for Hips and hamstrings
Prepare to move all around the matin a fun vinyasa flow that invites you to stay present with your breath as you move through some more advanced poses. You will build heat on the body to prepare for deep hip openers such as Bird of paradise, Titibasanaand Kurmasana.
Feldenkrais lesson: Making hips flexible
In this lesson, you will find that to create more mobility in the hip joints, you need to free up and integrate the movement in the back, spine and chest. You will explore movements that will help to differentiate movements between the pelvis and hips while spiraling through the spine. Find ease in the rotational movement of the hips while extending through the front of the pelvis. There are many parts of this lesson that you may find challenging because of the constraints placed on the body to open up new possibilities. Take it slow and move incrementally. You can return to this lesson again and again.
Yoga class: Deep Hip Opening
Prepare to go deeper into the hips and inner thighs. Practice mindfully as you tap into the inner sensations of the body, as Moni guides you through asanas that will help relax and open the musculature of the pelvis, hips, and back.
BONUS Modified Ashtanga Yoga session
Regular practice of the Ashtanga Primary series builds a powerful internal fire that detoxifies the inner organs, tones the body, and increases flexibility. This class will take you through a modified(shorter) version of the Ashtanga Primary series. You can return to this class as you progress through the other lessons on this course.
BONUS Yoga class: Active flexibility drillsfor the hips and hamstrings
If you feel like you are stretching with very little results, this class is perfect for you. Moni will take you through some active flexibility drills to help you see better results. You will learn techniques to help you unlock your flexibility while building in strength and creating mobility.
BONUS Build strength for healthy and supported hips
While developing flexibility and mobility, building strength is a fundamental part of moving intelligently. In this session you will go through a series of exercises, to activate and engage your accessory muscles, as well as the larger muscle groups that support healthy movement of the hips and pelvis. To gain the most out of this work, as you progress through the session, ensure you move mindfully and with intention. NB: Put on your favourite motivational music and move.

Embodied movement refers to a holistic approach to movement and physical expression that focuses on cultivating a deep connection between the mind, body, and emotions. It emphasises the integration of movement with awareness, encouraging individuals to engage in a conscious and present experience of their bodies.
Being “embodied” signifies feeling connected to your body with an increased ability to be present in the moment and to feel all of its sensations; emotional and physical.
In embodied movement practices, such as yoga, Feldenkrais, dance and other forms of mindful movement, the emphasis is on bringing awareness to the mind/body through exploring, listening to, and observing its processes. It involves becoming attuned to bodily sensations, so that there are distinctions between all the many different things that can be known: senses that bring in the outside world, the felt experience of the body, and our mental activities. We can even explore our felt connections with others.
Through embodied movement, individuals can develop a heightened sense of self-awareness, improve body-mind integration, enhance emotional well-being, and foster a deeper understanding of their physical and energetic selves. It offers a pathway to self-discovery, self-expression, and personal growth by tapping into the wisdom and intelligence stored within the body.
The Feldenkrais Method® is a somatic educational method based on brain plasticity and our innate capacity for integrative and non-verbal learning through movement and touch. It is named after its originator, Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984), an engineer and physicist as well as a Judo teacher. When you explore the Feldenkrais Method, it brings about improved movement and enhanced functioning by altering the neuromuscular structures of the body, to build patterns and habits that can bring about positive change. It focuses on organic learning through awareness, and in doing so, it teaches self- regulation, enabling you more choice of action over habitual compulsive reactions that do not serve you.
Though the Feldenkrais Method is not yoga, it has some similarities – it also has some important differences.
The Feldenkrais method does not come from an ancient religious or philosophical root. It was developed by a scientist and engineer, Moshe Feldenkrais, who was also an expert martial artist. He spent most of his life developing and improving the Feldenkrais Method for the benefit of people’s lives, health and well-being.
Like yoga, the Feldenkrais method encourages regular physical activity. These activities will increase the practitioner’s flexibility and strength, but that is not their primary purpose. The primary purpose is to train the body in non-damaging movement, and to correct habits of harmful movements.
In an Awareness Through Movement class, the emphasis is on guiding students’ attention to their internal sensations, allowing them to discover personalised “ideal” movement patterns. Teachers primarily use verbal guidance instead of demonstrating movements. They lead students through a series of movements while encouraging them to listen to the body’s signals, to move within the non-resistant range, but with intense mindfulness and purpose. The practice involves slow, deliberate movement rather than held poses, and avoids strain.
It helps in fostering awareness of the student’s habitual movement patterns, while facilitating the exploration of new, more efficient alternatives.

Many people have reported positive experiences with the Feldenkrais Method in addressing pain, tension, and injuries. It can be particularly helpful for musculoskeletal issues, such as chronic pain, postural problems, and movement limitations. By increasing body awareness and promoting mindful movements, the method may help individuals identify and release habitual patterns of tension or compensatory movements that contribute to pain or injury.
Many people state that they learn to move more freely, with greater ease, flexibility and grace. It’s been noted that if practiced regularly, The Feldenkrais Method can permanently improve your posture, balance and coordination.

Feldenkrais and Yoga, are incredibly complementary practices. Both utilise movement as the primary vehicle for cultivating awareness and presence. They invite students to explore and investigate their current state of being, deepen their understanding of the intricate architecture of the moving body and the nature of self-awareness.
The enhanced embodied awareness developed from one practice can then be integrated into the other movement practice, whether it be physical, mental, or even spiritual (although I want to emphasise that Feldenkrais does not explicitly delve into the realm of spirituality; however, individual experiences may lead to spiritual outcomes).

Yes! I am the co-founder of Vim Yoga Academy. We run 200HR Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Trainings. The next one starts January 2024. It is a hybrid online- in-person Vinyasa style teacher training. The online portion allows you to access all of your training materials online. The final two weeks of the training is in-person at the stunning beach front location, Little Cove in South Goa, India.

Meet your Teacher
Hi I’m Moni, I’m so glad you’re here.
I am a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner, Ashtanga, lignment focused Vinyasa and Yin Yoga Teacher (E-RYT200, RYT500), Body Weather Performance Training Practitioner. I am certified in the Original KTkali Ayurvedic Massage. I have a BA in Dance/Drama and a Masters in Physical Theatre. I also specialise in an interdisciplinary embodied approach to movement education.
Fascinated by the mind body in motion, I have dedicated my career to the practical, as well as philosophical, study of embodied movement training practices that fully integrate the relationship between the body, mind and environment.
